I began my love of movement in musical theater and dance. After an injury in college, I struggled to keep up with a life of dance and began seeking out something to fill that hole. After a few yoga classes I knew I found exactly what I needed.
With over 10 years of experience in instructing students in movement, I have found a calling to explore how yoga, dance, stretching, and other modalities of movement impact a person's wellness. Inspired by the unique pairing of physicality and spirituality that yoga provides, I strive to create a space where yogis can explore various levels of each to find how yoga can enhance their lives.
After the birth of my daughter in 2021, I felt myself become very lost in motherhood. I struggled deeply with rediscovering who I was and my purpose, and diving deeper into yoga and wellness gave me so much fulfillment. I felt myself blossoming into a more vibrant, insightful, and content human. This is the human I wanted my daughter to grow up knowing. As a credit to my beautiful daughter's existence sparking this journey, I named The Amethyst Yogi after her birth stone.
Plus, amethyst is gorgeous and is associated with serenity, enlightenment, and clarity. Who doesn't need more of that?
My goal for The Amethyst Yogi, from the start, has been to make yoga an easier choice. I wanted to create a space where humans could gather, move, breathe, laugh, cry, rest, and just exist knowing they are safe and welcome.
I started as a nomadic studio, sharing space with other businesses around Rochester and Kasson. This allowed me to hold classes all over town, so students could find a spot closest or easiest to access for them. It also brought a unique sense of community and familiarity to the space. For some, it could be mentally easier to walk into a coffee shop or retail store than a yoga studio.
I now have a home studio, located in SW Rochester at 1221 3rd Ave SW, Suite 260. This home base allows me to create more consistency for students who choose to practice in-studio. But don’t worry, I'll still have some classes hosted around town! Plus, I will continue to offer private group or individual sessions that can travel to you or your business.
Additionally, I believe that our community is capable of supporting each other to make an affordable, high-quality yoga studio possible. Our classes have low base rates and allow you to choose what you pay. This way, those who can offer more to support their fellow yogis are able to do so at their discretion.
Beyond this, we have scholarship and work-trade opportunities to help students pay for classes, as well as free & donation-based community classes.
